Luana Knighten, wife of Tuskegee Airman, actress, photographer, co-founder of the 1946 Essence Magazine, star
in "Take a Giant Step" and "The Spectrum".  Her life is told in the story "Tuskegee Love Letters"

Meet Luana -- a beautiful African American woman, with big dreams.
In the 1940's, she moved to Tuskegee, Alabama to be with her grade
school crush.  Later she moved up to Broadway and broadcasting.  A
graduate of the Kansas State Teachers College, she lived with the
descendants of Booker T. Washington and Frederick Douglass before
moving to the great city of New York.  Earning a living as a stenographer
and photographer she and her husband started a magazine dedicated to
Negro women:  Essence Magazine 1946, New York
